1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Reading Program is to help parents prepare their children for one of life’s big milestones. Kindergarten children get ready to read long before they begin their formal education. The most effective way to get your child ready to read is to read to them. You are your child’s first and most important teacher! Children ages birth to 5-year-old kindergartners are eligible to participate. Enroll your child today at the library and start them on their reading journey! For more information download the rules here.

LitWits: A Family Read-Along Challenge

Join our newest family read-along challenge, LitWits! Reading aloud as a family is essential to develop children’s language and communication skills while also creating lifelong positive associations with reading. Sign up today at the library or view the rules here.

At the beginning of each month, families will receive a book. Each month will be a varying difficulty, from chapter books to beginning readers to picture books. At the end of three months, if all three books have been read and all three reviews turned into the library, each family will receive a small prize. At the end of the year, families that have read all 12 books and returned all 12 reviews will participate in a special party or receive a prize.

If you have a daycare facility and would like to participate, you are more than welcome to do so. Each daycare facility will receive one book for the daycare provider to read to their children and build the daycare library. If parents want to participate as a family, they need to personally come in and sign up their family at the library. For more information, please call us at 620-431-3820.
