As the holiday season approaches, the Chanute Public Library is thrilled to unveil a series of festive events designed to bring joy, warmth, and a sense of community to all. From family-friendly activities to adult crafts and more, the library has something special planned for everyone.
- Holiday Story Time
Dates: November 28th, December 5th, December 12th, and December 19th
Time: 4 pm
Location: Upstairs Children’s Department
Join us for a holiday story time every Tuesday afternoon at 4 pm. Guest readers will read classic holiday favorites, sing carols, and enjoy cookies provided by the Friends of the Chanute Library.
- Holiday Kids Crafts
Dates: November 30th, December 7th, December 14th, and December 21st
Time: 4 pm
Location: Upstairs Conference Room
Unleash your holiday creativity with our holiday kids crafts every Thursday afternoon at 4 pm. Crafters will make cute holiday crafts to deck the halls!
- Stitchin’ Time
Dates: Every Wednesday, starting November 29th
Time: 5 – 7 pm
Location: Downstairs Adult Reading Area
Knitters, crocheters, and needle-point makers are invited to join our new stitching group, Stitchin’ Time. Bring a project and chat with other crafters.
- Christmas Wreath Workshop
Date: November 30th
Time: 4 – 6 pm
Location: Downstairs Adult Library
Create your own Christmas Wreath and share in the holiday cheer! Participants must be 12 years or older and must be signed up. Limited spots available.
- Christmas Cards Crafts
Date: December 12th
Time: 10 am or 1 pm

Join Jane Martin and Adele Heffern and make custom Christmas Cards to send to loved ones this holiday season. Participants must be signed up and state which session they would like to attend.
- Salt Dough Ornaments
Date: December 14th
Time: 4 – 6 pm
Location: Downstairs Adult Library
Get nostalgic and create beautiful salt dough ornaments to hang on your tree! No registration required. Come and go for participants ages 12 and up.
- Select It Yourself Book Club: Best of 2023

Read a good book that was published in 2023? Book club members will share the best book they read that was published in 2023.
- LIEAP Program Assistance
Date: December 28th
Time: 9am – Noon
Location: Library Lobby
Representatives from the Department for Children and Families will be in Chanute to assist patrons with filling out LIEAP program applications. The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a Federally funded program that helps eligible households pay a portion of their home energy costs. Participants must bring their most recent paystub or other form of income verification and their most recent utility bill.
These events are free and open to the public, fostering a sense of togetherness and community spirit. The Chanute Public Library encourages everyone to join in the festivities and create lasting memories this holiday season.
