Thank you to everyone who came to our book sale for Artist Alley and stopped by for Oktoberfest! Programming is back on at the library after summer reading and we’re gearing up for more events for fall!

We are starting Food for Fines again. Bring in one canned food item or 3 ramen noodle packets and get a $1 off your damaged or late fines with the Chanute Public Library! I also want to encourage those who don’t have fines to bring in cans and we’ll use those items to make anonymous donations for deserving families and patrons who need help paying down fines. Food for fines runs until November 30th so bring in your canned food items! All items will be donated to local blessing boxes.

We have some great upcoming November events. On November 9th, join us for a new Southwind Extension program called “Who Gets Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate?” at 6 pm. The holiday season is the perfect opportunity to talk to loved ones about what do to with all their family heirlooms once they pass. Learn how to have these conversations without starting a family feud! We will do an ugly Christmas sweater craft on November 16th. Bring in your own ugly sweater and make it even uglier with us! We will also have a healthy holiday cooking class on November 16th at noon.

We also want to remind everyone to go vote on Tuesday, November 7th! The last day to register to vote in this year’s election might be past, but if you plan on changing your name or address in the upcoming year, we still have forms at the library that you can fill out and send to the County Election officials to count for next year. Any election, even small off-year elections, are important to our democracy and part of everyone’s civic duty.

We seem to have a bunch of celebrity memoirs recently released, including a new one about Madonna, Tupac, and Patrick Stewart. I’ll also be the first to admit when I saw the cover of Henry Winkler’s new memoir, I didn’t realize he also played the Fonz!

Looking forward to all these great books coming out soon! The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters; Energy Follows Thought by Willie Nelson; From a Far and Lovely Country by Alexander McCall-Smith; Being Henry: The Fonz…and Beyond by Henry Winkler; The Woman in Me by Britney Spears; A Christmas to Remember by Beverly Jenkins; My Name is Barbara by Barbara Streisand; Resurrection Walk by Michael Connelly.
