What draws people to the library? Everything! From books and digital resources to job assistance and creative programming, libraries are essential to thriving communities.

National Library Week, April 6–12, 2025, is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning.

At the Chanute Public Library, we invite the community to join the celebration! Whether you’re a longtime patron or haven’t visited in a while, now is the perfect time to explore all the library has to offer. Our library provides programming for all ages – from babies and toddler storytimes to preschool storytimes, after-school STEAM programs to adult crafts, special speaker events, and homebound delivery services – to electronic resources, like ebooks, audiobooks, databases for research or genealogy projects to public access computers and mobile printing and faxing. We ensure that everyone has access to resources that educate, inspire, and connect!

Whatever draws you in, the library has something for everyone. Whether you’re preparing for a career change, launching a business, raising a family, or embracing retirement, the Chanute Public Library is here to support your journey. Libraries serve as hubs for learning, creativity, and connection, helping people of all ages explore new ideas and opportunities.

Here are some special days to celebrate during National Library Week:

  • Monday, April 7th: Right to Read Day, a day for readers, advocates, and library lovers to take action to protect, defend, and celebrate the right to read. To celebrate, read a banned book or check out ALA’s Top Ten Most Challenged Books.
  • Tuesday, April 8th: National Library Workers’ Day, a day for library staff, users, administrators, and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers. To celebrate, tell a library worker how much they have impacted your lives.
  • Wednesday, April 9th: National Outreach Day, a day to celebrate library outreach and the dedicated library professionals who are meeting their patrons where they are. To celebrate, help us thank our community organizations and partners on social media.
  • Thursday, April 10th: Take Action for Libraries Day, a day to rally advocates to support libraries. The best way to show your support for the library is to tell everyone about how important libraries are – from your mom, your best friend, next door neighbor, even all the way up to your local city commissioners and state and federal legislators.

This National Library Week, take time to rediscover the library and see how it draws us together as a community. Whether you’re visiting for books, resources, or a place to connect, the Chanute Public Library is here for you.

First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.
